Our Nigerian Designers stay steady working hard and staying behind the camera, most of the time.
How pleased I was, when I captured Ade Yusuf, creative director and designer of Nigerian fashion brand, Pearl 1130, looking amazing at a shopping event.
She is wearing a Pearl 1130 frock and a DKNY bag and nude strappy heels to match.

Ade Yusuf

GORGE..!!! <3

I absolutely love the look. What say you.??

Hello everyone.
When I created this blog... It was created to blog all things fashion, and about my life as a fashion enthusiast/fashion stylist.
I got a mail recently that woke me up to the fact that even though I blog about my shoots... Some of y'all, aspiring fashion stylists still need to know the basics.
To me, assisting a fashion stylist is a better way of learning the whole art. I have assisted many fashion stylists and I must confess that I have learnt a lot from them. Many assistants make a lot of mistakes when it comes to assisting the fashion stylist, so I am here to give you the basics.

  1. *Drop that designer bag and 6-inch heels at home... Its major work and not a fashion parade. You spend all day at a shoot on your feet.. Looking pretty isn't the main priority, Getting the job done is..! Carry your sling bags or fanny pack and wear comfortable shoes or sandals.
  2. *always watch the fashion stylist closely... The way she steams the clothes, the way she works the pins, the way she pairs the outfit together.. If you are lucky, you get to read her styling memopad. This will come in handy when u get to style your own shoot.
  3. *holding the photographer's reflector is gonna be part of your job, at either one shoot or the other. I have a PH.D in the art of holding reflectors. *chuckles*
  4. *you should have your own stylist kit, even though the Head Stylist has hers. It paints you as a serious minded person and to be honest, who goes to a battle field without a sword.? :D
  5. *you get to dress and undress the model. You are an assistant, so your view doesn’t really matter. Hang it neatly back on the racks. Keep quiet and listen to every thing the Fashion Stylist says. Wanna chip in something?? Good... Do it politely and never make it look like what she has styled is wrong.
  6. *major distractions should be avoided. That phone call, that candy in your bag, you wanna tweet something? upload a quick picture on facebook?? OH YOU FANCY, HUH?  Don't be distracted!! Face the shoot.!
  7. *taping shoes is an art.! I'd probably have to come back and explain this with pictures in my next "fashion Assistant styling 101" post. But hey, assistants tape the shoes.
  8. *Every designer piece used at a shoot should be like Gold to you. Prevent makeup stains and creases. Hang it gently back on the rack.
  9. *the final return of designer pieces is sometimes done by the head Stylist, but if you are asked to do it... Please always return it into safe hands. No third party.

That’s all. Any other question should be asked in the comment box or my mailbox.
Happy to answer any questions.

Finally, another style feature whipped out of my mailbox. *whoop*
This is Damilola Akinnaike... This is what she has to say. :)

My name is Dami, I'm 21 and from Dagenham, Essex. I am a BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing graduate and freelance stylist (Whoo hooo), 3 years, eh no eazy but I made it sha. I am very much married to Fashion. My style is versatile and according to my mood, this changes. It is along the lines of chic, classy, hippie, casual. I've been freelancing for about 2 years now and I love it, Styling is art in itself.
Getting to work with amazing photographers, hairstylist, make-up artists who all share the same love and passion is everything.I wouldn't say I have a style icon, most of my inspiration comes from people I see everyday, what I see around me and looking at blogs but Olivia Palermo is someone I eye up from time to time. She is all about femininity and is fashion herself. My theory is 'Fashion is a form of Art, not everyone understands it' and sometimes you aren't supposed to understand Fashion.
Having that personal style is a celebration of who you are and it is our identity. The way we are dressed speaks May words to people just from looking.Oh, just before I forget, I am a lover of wedges. My collection keeps growing daily, I can't stop.

Her hair game is giving me oxygen right now.
I love it.

*Drum rolls*
Okay.. I was awarded a "best blog" award by this lovely fashion phoenix, Mbabazi (
I am so thrilled.  *now dancing*
the rule is to write 7 random things about yourself.
So here goes...

1) I love the group,” Florence and the machine" with all my heart. Can someone please promise to bring Florence Welch for my wedding? I will forfeit wearing a Vera Wang dress and louboutin shoes at my wedding, just to hear Florence Welch sing "heavy in your arms" at my wedding.

 2) Despite the fact that I love my clothes, I am not attached to anything in my wardrobe. It’s just Fashion... Nothing serious.

3) Recently, I hate reading books.. Why sit down and read a book, when I can be tweeting and checking out fashion blogs. Don't blame me... Blame my blackberry!! Random basic behaviour, right.? :|

4) I hate Rules. Who loves them though? I have been called a rebel, but I just refuse to conform. It’s not in my nature..! I am a free spirit.

5)  I am the master multi-tasker. People wonder how I combine being a student, fashion blogger, a fashion stylist and fashion editor.. Attending events and fashion shows. Not easy I must say, but I juggle them well. :)

6) my best fashion experience was working backstage at Arise Magazine Fashion Week. I miss the chaos, drama, and adrenaline. It taught me a lot about fashion styling. Maybe New York Fashion Week next?? Amen!

7) My Fashion Heroes are Bola Balogun and Omoyemi Akerele. They are Nigeria's Fashion pioneers! I want to be like them when I grow up!

And I have to answer the following questions:-

*Favorite Colour:-
I don't have a favorite colour. Any colour, bright and cheerful pops my socks.
*Favorite dessert:- hmmm.. None!
*Biggest Pet Peeve:- people telling me what to wear and how to wear my clothes! If I wanted to dress uniform-like... I woulda joined the army.
*Favorite Pet:- I have never had a pet! I'd prefer a rabbit or a parrot! I hate dogs! Bleehh..!!
*Biggest fear:- falling from a tall building.
*Best Feature:- my Nose.
*Everyday Attitude:- Life is short. Making the best outta it, one hour at a time.
*what is perfection?:-
Going on a vacation to a beautiful island with my family. Hearing my dad's laughter and listening to my mum's jokes! Watching my siblings play with the sand. *sighs*
*Guilty Pleasure:-
watching movies while stuffing my face with chocolate cake and ice-cream or cookies and juice.!

There you go.. 7 random things about me, Zee Fashion Phoenix. The rule is to pass it unto 15 dope blogs, but I am giving this award to you, my readers. If you have a Blog, TADA... This award belongs to you, Fashion Phoenixes.
Love y'all.

Hello everyone!
Amazing week, aye?
Sorry about the lack of posts. I had to stop blogging because of my exams.. Now they are over, I can finally breath and blog again.
Ever since I turned 16, I stopped dressing for anyone but myself. It started out as a way to rebel against my momma, who derived pleasure in watching my sister and I squeeze into them "cinderella" "Akwa-oche" dresses, with our faces, dull like a wick lamp. After wearing just school uniforms and daywear all through my life, I felt the need to pass a message across through my clothing. To express myself and show off my individuality. My style is an extension of me and no-one else, so I am not bothered about the long stares that linger, long after I have walked past.
The MBGN event has come and gone, but I didn't get a chance to post what I wore, due to zee exams!
I got to school, opened my wardrobe and had nothing to wear. I couldn't see a decent outfit through the clutter of clothes. Blame it on the small student wardrobe I have to live with for another year before graduation.
The colours shone from afar... I smiled, tugged at it and held it up. I bought the dress out of compulsion. My vintage shoe/bag seller had it with him, and I bought it because of the clash of colours.
When I wore it, I looked like a 70's school teacher.
I whipped out my 2-toned vintage shoes and skipped off.

I appeared on Live TV and blurted out how shy I was.
I was so embarrassed. X_X
Later, I heard that someone called my dress a rag-day themed dress... I laughed so hard! Of course, people are entitled to their opinion, but how boring this world would be, if we all dressed alike. *shudders*
If that dress makes you happy, wear it.
If those shoes look so funny, but makes you smile when you wear them... Rock 'em!
Life is too short... Your happiness matters!

The Music Meets Runway event has come and gone… perfection is not enough to describe the pieces made by the awesome designers.
While some of the collections stunned me, The rest failed to make me giddy with excitement. I only took backstage pictures of 2 of the designers and I shall be giving honest fashion reviews on them.

The Viv Le resistance brand stunned me beyond words! I’d like to believe the motive of the collection was to portray the perfect woman who believes in well crafted pieces and luxe fascinators.
Made from Adire, the pieces were refined with little details stitched perfectly.
Bursting with vivid colours that complement the richness of the adire fabric and the blend of lace in some of the pieces, I was drawn by the collection and taken to my favourite fashion era. It also created a bridge between local fabrics and modern style.
The aesthetic of the Nigerian brand shows distinct luxury and classical cuts with a modern twist.
The whole collection revolves with the designer using bronzed out colour palette, such as red, gold, grey, black and orange to create contemporary pieces that exceed trends and last the test of time. The lush pieces worn by the models made me gape in astonishment. It focused on strong feminine attitude and playful styling with a strong emphasis on feminity. The purses added an extra oomph to the vibe.
The collection is everything you would expect from the evolving Nigerian fashion brand and so much more.
In true “Fashion Phoenix” style… I present the backstage pictures.
Enjoy the pictures;-

What do you think about the collection?
Yay or nay?

Recently, I posted pictures of students going to class, in order to celebrate their style and show you all, how we dress in my school.
In my school, we practically wear conventional things. Sometimes, you really can’t ignore the “oh-you-fancy-huh.?” Stares, students tend to throw your way when you walk into school wearing an unconventional outfit that shows your style.
I won’t stress... I am not always dressed up all stylish and decked to the nines, but I tend to add accessories to compliment what I am wearing and tell people about my quirky style. My T-shirts act like a plain canvas, where I paint my style with little distinct accessories.
Yesterday, after a test… my friends and I went out of class and had a little photo shoot. Students passed and stared as usual, but we kept taking pictures and giving funny poses.
I Uploaded pictures of what I wore…

T-shirt; - random
Jeans; - American eagle
Turban: - random Ankara material
Belt: - vintage

Masaai earrings... gotten from LPM..!

I cant fathom my love for rings nowadays.!

Newest addition to my ring collection.!

Leather Bag;- Gift from my friend, Terence Sambo
I “heart” it..!!

I am at a point in my life where I am wondering what I really want to do to move forward… School, Tons of assignments, Fashion Projects, et al. I am always thinking... I am always thinking... I can’t stop..!
Sometimes, I am thinking of ways to add a unique input and help the Nigerian Fashion Industry grow and I pause and ask myself... “How? Onyinye, you are just a scrawny student.”
I can’t be the only one with big dreams...
The Flag is on the moon… Men Put it there..!!
If they can, then we can achieve our dreams, for Pete’s sakes.
Believe… Believe... Just try to Believe.
